Lloyds Banking Group Cycle Tour

24 Hour Cycle Challenge for Save The Children

On the 12th November 2012, Hire Fitness helped the Lloyds Banking Group to go that extra mile for Save the Children by providing an army of exercise bikes across the UK for their 24 hour ‘Around the World’ cycle challenge.

Over 850 employees across 59 locations in the UK raised more than £100,000 for Save the Children, by cycling 55,000 miles on Hire Fitness exercise bikes.  That’s the equivalent of three times around the earth on land.

Individuals within teams across the world took it in turns to cycle for 24 hours.  All teams completed the cycle challenge simultaneously at their different locations to get their combined distance.

The funds raised from this challenge will go to supporting Save the Children’s Families and Schools Together programme (FAST), which is helping families and schools work together to make sure theUK’s poorest children get the support they need.  To date, enough funds have been raised to support over 12,000 children.  All of the funds raised through the partnership are making a huge long-term difference to the poorest children in theUK.

Paul Turner, Lloyds Banking Group Community and Sustainable Business Director said: “With 30 million customers, Lloyds Banking Group is privileged to have a presence in almost every community in theUK. This unique position provides us with an opportunity give back to the communities we serve, and helping them thrive is a responsibility we take very seriously.

“We are immensely proud of our cyclists who took up this challenge, which will make a real difference to those less fortunate. Our cyclists together with all of our colleagues who contributed did so with one common purpose in mind – to help to give a child a better chance in life.”

Douglas Rouse, Corporate Partnerships Director at Save the Children said: “We’re hugely grateful to all the individuals from Lloyds Banking Group who took part in this unique fundraising challenge.  Save the Children believes that every child should have the chance to fulfil their potential.  Lloyds Banking Group is helping us to make a tremendous difference to the lives of children in theUK and we are very grateful for their support.”

Well done Lloyds, that’s a staggering amount of miles covered and a fantastic amount raised for such an amazing and vital charity.  We would love to see this as an annual event – so what about running around the world next year on our Hire Fitness treadmills?    🙂
